What I'm very curious about is the cast...........

Any guesses? even though I hope they choose relatively unknown actors again.

Hi Ingrid,
I would like to see in Pirate Latitudes:

Captain Charles Hunter - Daniel Craig or Russel Crowe
Cazalla - Javier Bardem or Antonio Banderas
Lazue - our very own Carice van Houten
Don Diego - Joseph Gordon Levitt (tough I think he is actually to young to be Don Diego)
Sanson - Jean Reno
Mr. Enders - Andy Serkis
Bassa - Michael Clarke Duncan
James Almont - Anthony Hopkins
Robert Hacklett - Michael Sheen
Emily Hacklett - Natalie Dormer
Sarah Almont - Eva Green
Commander Scott - Kevin McKidd

Do you have prefered actors to star in Pirate Latitudes?

BTW: Loved the book

Wow Juroc....seems you're into movies as well!

I liked your suggestion of Carice van Houten, but she's might be too fragile looking.
How about Drew Barrymore?

Banderas, even though I like him to bits, is too much Ibn Fadlan for me when it concerns Crichton.
Funnily enough had it not been a Crichton book I would have agreed 1000% .

How about Robert Downey Jr. for Hunter?
Hopkins for Almont. good plan.

....................let me ponder on the rest.........

One reason why Carice would be a good Lazue are her eyes... which is a important detail for the character.
I can see the close ups when she is scanning the horizon :) also she is a woman who is not affraid to do a a scene in the nude.

Robert Downey Jr.... well I can see him as Captain Hunter as well... good choice :) I like his work.

I think Antonio Banderas will be great as Cazalla... perhaps he will do this role so well, you won't think about Ibn Fahdlan while watching Pirate Latitudes. But Javier Bardem would also be a good choice... think of the madness in No Country for Old Men.

What are your thought about Andy Serkis for mr. Enders? I think he will fit for this role :D

 Gollum for Mr. Enders...........you should become a casting director Juroc!

To be very honest: I date from the days when I knew who Paul Newman, Robert Redford, Dustin Hofmann, Peter Ustinov,Steve McQueen, Alec Guinnes, Andy Garcia, James Caan, Marlon Brando,Richard Gere,ShirleyMacLaine, Jack lemmon,Richard Burton,Liz Taylor, Barbra Streisand, David Niven, Sean Connery , Julie Andrewsand even Bergman and Bogart were, but after my fourth kid I sort of lost touch with movieworld.
So I'm probably not your best sparring partner for this.

James McAvoy s'awfully cute.
Couldn't you fit him in somewhere?

I see. it is just when you blink there is a new bunch of good actors who can fit with the actors and actresses you just mentioned.
when I read a book I always imagine how the characters look and act.

as for James McAvoy... he is a good actor too.
(spoiler)
************

would it not be interesting to see him as Robert Hacklet? because in the begin you don't expect he would turn out to be such a villain at the end.

I did not hear anything about the production for this film... only that David Koepp is writing the script and that Spielberg had the rights to adapt it. But Johnny Depp for Cazalla would be very cool :D

Gerard Butler would make a good Captain Hunter.
I think he is a good actor. To bad he gets bad movies to star in.

still keep with Carice van Houten as Lazue :)

Gary Oldman - Almont
Gerard Butler - Captain Hunter
Paul Bettany - Don Diego
Liv Tyler - Lazue
Eric Bana - Sanson
Andy Serkis - Enders
Michael Clarke Duncan - Bassa
Antonio Banderas - Cazalla
Lambert Wilson (The Merovingian from the Matrix) - Bosquet

I don't know if these ideas are any good, but they are a start for me.

I went to pick up a Book on CD and came across Pirate Latitudes. We listened to the book on our holiday road trip and loved it! I kept thinking "wow this would be a great movie"! As soon as we got home yesterday I did a Google search and was so excited to see Steven Spielberg picked it up. While we were listening to this I kept think about potential cast and thought of a few below:

Captain Charles Hunter - James McAvoy
Lazue - Robin Weigert
Sanson - Javier Bardem
Bassa - Michael Clarke Duncan
James Almont - Liam Neeson
Robert Hacklett - Neil Patrick Harris or John Lithgow
Emily Hacklett - Natalie Portman
Sarah Almont - Anne Hathaway
Anne Sharp-Dakota Fanning

I can't wait to see who is cast and when the movie will be out for us all to enjoy!
