Almost finished reading Pirate Latitudes.
I forced myself to read extra slowly,to enjoy every bit of the book.
To me the story resembles a bit like the Greek Odyssee.
Group of people go out on the sea and sail into adventure after adventure (Spanish warship, Matanceros, hurricane, cannibals, the kraken and finally the estrange homeworld). any thoughts?

Hi Juroc,

I'm due for my second read of PL soon. My hard cover order has arrived at the ABC.
The first round in October , starting at 4 on the day I bought it, took me two days (and a half a night); just couldn't stop reading.

I very much wish MC was still here so I could tell him he wrote a wonderful book.
It's like Stevensons "Treasure Island" and took me effortlessly back into time.
You can smell the stink; feel the agony and taste the fear and there were definitely no airplanes flying over;
i.e. it was realistic in its time setting

The characters are well described and easy to identify with and the inventions and ideas very typically MC.
It reminded me of the great train robbery in its plot and development.

To me Crichton is a genius and I'm very happy this book was posthumously published.

I read it purposely slow, because I don't wish it to end.
But alas... I am very near the end... two chapters.
It was a very enjoyable read, and I learned a lot about 17th century caribbean.

Hope the unfinished novel will be just as good.
