Hi everyone, long time lurker, first time poster. I was just wondering if we had any news on the "Untitled Techno-Thriller" which is supposedly going to be fleshed out by another author, (not that any compare to Crichton). Pirate Latitudes sounds pretty cool, sort-of a cross between The Great Train Robbery and Eaters of the Dead (a period heist adventure), but this second novel is what really has my interest. Personally, I could go for another Crichton "creature" story (always my favorite), such as Jurassic Park, The Lost World, Congo or Sphere. Anywho, if this is going to be out by December of next year, they should have hired an author, or will pretty soon, right? BTW, any suggestions for who could flesh out Crichton's notes? I'd say James Rollins, or Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child, would be ideal as they pretty much write in the genre MC created anyway. Anywho, is anyone as desperately curious about this book as I am?

Hi Doc, I am also very curious about the untitled project. Cannot wait til November 2010. Luckily we have in the meantime Pirate Latitudes! But I cannot imagine another author who can write a classic Crichton novel... but I like Lincoln&Child, and I think they may be worthy to finish the job.
I believe MC was working on a novel about how the environment works. That is the only clue he gave about his upcoming project. According to the publisher it will be a edge of your seat thriller... It is a shame Michael was not able to finish this novel.

Thanks for the reply. I remember Crichton's comment on it being related to the environment...I believe he also stated it was "in the mold of 'Jurassic Park'" or something similar. Intriguing. Any guesses as to the plot? Personally, just a wild guess, how about a story about a new species evolving on the ocean floor, as a counter-measure developed by the natural world to fight off the infection that is man, then coming ashore to raise havoc in an isolated location? Or whatever!

I would like to read another creature story by Michael Crichton, so your idea seems fun to read Hopefully more info will be available soon... but then it is fun to speculate

though I eagerly await the 2010 November release...I do not want any more posthumous Crichton novels after that....Crichton was a genius of an individual, we should not misuse his name and market it as sort of an institution. Mario puzo novels are still being written 10 years after hsi death Robert Ludlum novels are still being published 5 years after his death New Sidney Sheldon novels are goint to be churned out later this year If anybody is really interested in reading Crichton novels...lets start a movement for the republication of the early John Lange or Michael Douglas novels. Only a few of the ardent MC fans have reead these books. so beter for us to read the orignal vintages...rather than reading a Crichton novel written by any other Tom, **** or Harry.

I wonder when they're going to release details on this...? Pirate Latitudes got a press release in April for a Fall release, so I'd expect around the same timing for this book as well...

they gave us heads up for Pirate Latitudes because it had been already written and (almost) ready to be published... the last upcoming story is not done yet (or at least they say so) so if it's being under development, they will not likely reveal the details before they know them summer or early autumn i'd say we'll get something official on that... rumours? anytime

Well they would know the author and the details of the plot by now, if it's coming out this year. That's more than enough for a press release, I would think.

It is almost 1 year since the announcement that at least two Michael Crichton novels will be published. Pirate Latitudes has been published... now the untitled project which had to be finished! I am very curious when we hear more info regarding this new book...

Just read on Harper Collins catalogue that this novel will be published in Fall of 2012 http://www.harpercollinscatalogs.com/ha ... 333632.htm'quote' Pirate Latitudes is the first novel in a two-book deal. The second, as yet untitled, is tentatively scheduled for Fall 2012 and will be a contemporary thriller in the vein of Jurassic Park. 'unquote' If this is true then we don't have a MC novel out this year. But I look it at the bright side: the ghostwriter really take his time to deliver us a novel worthy in the Michael Crichton canon.

We are almost at the end of the summer, and I still did not read any news regarding the book. Does anyone know more?
